2020 was a strange year, as I'm sure you would agree. Plenty of shenanigans afoot nationwide, specifically with the Asian community. Attacks on Asians from all walks of life, seemingly unprovoked in some instances. Art is an extremely powerful form of expression, and I felt as if there wasn't a symbol for our community that someone could look at and say, "yeah, that's hard."
What's a widely known symbol that is a positive representation of Asians? Well, a dragon of course! But, I felt as if that wasn't enough. Having influences from other sources, I came across Blackbeard's flag. A man holding a bag of coins in one hand, and a spear in the other, with the business end pointed towards a heart. The image conveys the idea of no quarter for the person's enemies. While the bag of coins doesn't really fit with what I was going for, the spear does. No quarter to anyone who would attempt to do harm to anyone based off of their ethnic background.
